how to make the thing (see video below) and pronounce it, too. I always thought it was pronounced "nuhp", but it's "noop"! That's phonetically spelled, folks; it's still spelled 'nupp'. So advises Nancy Bush, one of my knitting heroines. I've got her book, Knitted Lace of Estonia: Techniques, Patterns and Traditions, on order from Amazon. Unfortunately, the publication date has been pushed back by SEVERAL months (waaah!).
SO...Knitting Daily is offering the Estonian Lace Scarf as a free download (you gotta join, though!) and you can purchase the Estonian Triangular Summer shawl pattern ("Lily-of-the-Valley" - only 6 bucks!) published in the July/August 2008 Piecework magazine (which is also in the book).

It is similar to treble crochet! I love Estonian lace, check this out, I have been drooling over this, I just need to get the yarn spun :)

You can tell by so much posting hubby's gone and I'm rattling around the house bored!
OHMIGOSH, Dori Ann! That is GORGEOUS! No wonder you're drooling - me, too! Lemme get a napkin for the both of us...
Only thing I can't figure out is why it's similar to treble crochet! Don't look nuttin' like crochet ta me (not that I'm an expert)...
I'm still sayin' nuhp. lol.
I guess I should have said that the wrapping and making more than on stitch in a stitch is much like crochet. Me no expert either :) I can't get crocheting down worth a darn!!
Now I need to get her to relist another pattern and start spinning some yarn!
2500 yds!!
LOL - probably I will, too, Lara. I'll forget...
Okay, *I* see what you mean, Dori. Yes, it's a bit like that treble crochet thing. I can't 'get' crochet down, either, cuz I can't remember all those dang stitches! Knitting's much easier for me :-)
Hey, I apologize for buying that pattern - I had assumed it was just a PDF download and that she'd have a bunch listed like that. Well, it IS a download, but...I couldn't figure out why she only had ONE listed. Maybe she'd listed, like, 10 of them and I happened to be the last buyer. In which case...she really ought to get another batch listed!
